Think Inside X CALM

Think Inside is incredibly proud to announce Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) as our official charity partner.
CALM is a suicide prevention charity that offers a wide range of services to help anyone who is struggling. They do it by provoking conversation, running life-saving services, and bringing people together, so they reject living miserably, get help when they need it and don’t die by suicide.
Over the coming months, Think Inside will be working with CALM to highlight the issue, and dangers of poor mental health in the construction industry, and to raise awareness of the help that is available.
Scale of the problem
Suicide is one of the biggest killers in the construction industry with statistics sadly showing that people working in the industry are three times more likely to take their own lives than in other sectors.
The mental health challenge in the construction industry can be attributed to several factors: Lone working, unsociable hours, work pressures and gender. The industry is predominantly male, particularly on-site, and in general men are not very good at opening-up about their feelings and problems. In fact, according to research by CALM 84% of men bottle up their emotions, with nearly half suppressing their feelings often or at least once a day at the expense of their mental health.
Working to change attitudes, and lives
Our aim, together with CALM, is to open up the conversation around mental health and to empower our colleagues and supply chain to reach out to CALM if they’re struggling. CALM is there to listen and help – without judgement.
ASICS London 10K
Some of the ways in which we’ll be raising awareness is by participating in the ASICS London 10k on behalf of CALM (July 9) and, organising our own fundraiser in the Autumn.
